THE FIFTH BLESSING IN THE BOOK OF REVELATION

THE FIFTH BLESSING IN THE BOOK OF REVELATION ye-men-of-galilee

Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years (Revelation 20: 6).

We started the Bible study about the seven blessings through the book of Revelation, but we did it in the African languages. I think it is a good idea to translate them in English in way to share each other these blessings.

This fifth blessing is  »  Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. So, it means that they who will not take part in the first resurrection will be cursed. If they that have part in the first resurrection are holy, it means that they who have not part in it are not holy. The apostle Paul said: « the dead in Christ shall rise first » (1Thessalonians 4: 16). Then, the apostle John wrote : » But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection (Revelation 20: 5). Through this last verse, we see that the persons who have not part in this first resurrection are them that the Bible calls  » the rest of the dead » and they had none of the seven blessings written in the book of Revelation. So, they will have part in the second resurrection for the second death. Through the prophetic vision, John relates their sad situation, while they are burning in the final destruction: « And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20: 13-15). According the word of God, there are 1000 years between the first and the second resurrection. However, we cannot affirm that they are the years that we know with 365 days, because of the glorious mystery of the first resurrection and all the life we will enjoy in that time is not clear today in our mind. We trust in this promise by faith because of God had revealed it to us «  Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit (1Corinthians 2: 8-10).  For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known (1Corinthians 13: 12). My prayer today is motivated by the wish to see you and me around Jesus, in this glorious morning of the first resurrection, in Jesus name. Amen.
